LABAN KONSYUMER: PORK AND CHICKEN PRICES RISE AFTER PRICE FREEZE ENDS

In a public statement today, consumer advocacy group Laban Konsyumer Inc. (LKI) and its President Atty. Vic Dimagiba observed that based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA,   chicken and meat retail prices rise after the price freeze ended.

Pork Kasim and liempo prevailing retail prices are Php 260 to Php 280 per kilo while whole chicken retail prices are at Php 150 per kilo.

Exactly a month ago, pork prevailing prices are Php 250.00 to Php 260 per kilo and Php 130.00 for chicken .

Current Suggested Retail Prices are Php 190 for pork products and Php 130.00 for chicken.

LKI pleaded that the importers and broilers and hog raisers should keep their prices at reasonable level for now, even after the price freeze ended.

Even though on paper there is no more price freeze, we feel that these companies should not cave into the pandemic of profiteering, and should take into consideration the hardships that all consumers are experiencing now.

Whether there is a market pressure to adjust SRP higher due to current demand and supply should be thoroughly studied, Dimagiba added.
