LKI PRESS STATEMENT 2021-014

April 7, 2021

Laban Konsyumer  CALLS OUT INACTION ON PETITION REVOKING HIGH Feed in Tariff  RATES

In the recent statement submitted by consumer group Laban Konsyumer Inc. (LKI), the organization and its President Atty. Vic Dimagiba said “our group is once again calling for action by ERC and TransCo on the petition that we filed to revoke the  FIT increases issued in May 2020. The rule making petition is still unacted upon. But it should already have an impact on 2021 FIT-All petition, these revocations should happened together, as the ERC 2021-001 RM was in the first week of   January 2021.

Feed in tariff or  FIT is an unfair burden on the Filipino consumer and should be revoked as soon as possible, especially given the challenging times the pandemic has brought upon us as a country.”

The consumer advocate is also opposing the 2021 FIT-All application for P0.22 per kwh from the current P0.09 per kWh. LKI will demand a detailed accounting of payments to RE resources developers of the adjusted and higher FIT rates. LKI said it would look for a swift action to be taken by ERC to resolve the issues that have an immense impact on the costs being passed on to consumers, especially during these challenging times of pandemic.

Laban Konsyumer also seek to dismiss the intervention of the renewable energy developers  represented by the groups called DREAM and WEDAP in the 2021 FIT Allowance petition of Transco  as they  voluntarily declined participation and lacked interest during the pre trial conference of the petition which the consumer Group labelled as an affront to the integrity of the rate hike petition .

LKI also recently called out the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and noted their immediate call “THAT THE ERC EXERCISE ITS POWERS UNDER RULE 21 OF THE ERC RULES OF PRATICE AND PROCEDURE AND NULLIFY AND REPEAL THE QUESTIONED RESOLUTION NO .06 SERIES OF 2020 DATED MAY 26, 2020 which in increased Feed in Tariff retroactive to 5 years and without notices and public hearing.

Regarding all these concerns on FIT-ALL, LKI looks for swift action to be taken by ERC to resolve the issues, that have an immense impact on the costs being passed on to consumers, especially during these challenging times of pandemic.
