Consumer group challenges consumers to respond to calls for PORK HOLIDAY

In a recent press release by consumer advocacy group Laban Konsyumer Inc.

(LKI), they wrote “Amidst the tug of war amongst the agriculture department, the hog raisers, importers and market vendors, the consumers continue to bear the brunt of high prices of pork and chicken, well above current SRPS. The agriculture department blamed traders and wholesalers of pork for price manipulation, HOG raisers demanded the resignation of Sec DAR for incompetence, importers bat for more import permits and lower tariff imports, Vendors complaining of high prices from traders and consumers is beset by as much as 450 Php a kilo of liempo.” 

LKI President Atty. Vic Dimagiba continued saying “Thus, Laban Konsyumer stated in a radio interview today that consumers must exercises it’s right of choice.  Let’s stop buying meat products. Mag PORK HOLIDAY muna tayo until the market price behaves.”

Dimagiba went on to explain that “In the meantime 3rd party independent Government agencies should take it upon themselves to probe price collusion if any and file charges   to anyone who slept on their job, those who takes advantage at the expense of the other stakeholders and more importantly, us the consumers.” 

LKI highlighted “There are competing positions at the moment. The agriculture department announced price manipulation by the traders, the hog raisers call for the resignation of the agriculture secretary for incompetence amidtst alleged supply issues in Luzon , the importers want lower tariff and more volume and Industry wants financial assistance to bring the pork from Visayas and Mindanao to Ncr and Luzon and market vendors claim high farm gate prices and slaughter fees.” 

Dimagiba pointed out “Everyone has its own story. You do not know which is which.

Meantime consumers continue to bear the brunt of high prices. The call for PORK HOLIDAY by Laban Konsyumer Inc. exemplifies the right of consumers to exercise its right to choose, I. E. Stop buying pork. LABAN KONSYUMER challenges consumers to respond to their call for PORK HOLIDAY.”
