ENLIVEN THE SEASON WITH PRICE FREEZE AND NOT PRICE HIKES ON NOCHE BUENA PRODUCTS

A recognized local consumer organization of the Department of Trade and Industry reasoned that “there is currently no reason for a rise in prices of the products in the Noche Buena category, and thus we believe food manufacturers should not raise their costs and charges to consumers.
We are speaking out against plans to increase prices in hamon, spaghetti, tomato sauce, elbow macaroni, creamer, sandwich spread, mayonnaise and fruit cocktail.
Vic Dimagiba, Laban Konsyumer Inc. President explained “the better value of the peso versus the dollar means that imported raw materials should be cheaper and diesel used in transporting and distributing goods is Php 10 pesos cheaper pre Covid 19. Besides, food manufacturers carry excess inventory due to lower consumer spending the past seven (7) months.
Dimagiba added that “it is not fair and humane to increase the prices for the sake of profits in the middle of this pandemic, especially when there are millions of Filipinos still experiencing loss of jobs, money, and means to buy food, leading to hunger across the nation, which a private survey entity reported at 45 million Filipinos.

Food products under the Noche Buena category are part of Filipino culture and social tradition. Let us enliven the Season with Price Freeze rather than Price Increase.
